Understanding QR Codes vs. Code 128
Learn how to use QR codes or switch to Code 128 for your workflows.
What is a QR Code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that can store much more information than traditional barcodes. In YoPrint, every PDF document, such as Sales Orders, Invoices, and Stock Transfers, includes a QR code for easy access to the right record in the system.
Benefits of QR Codes in YoPrint
- Can be scanned using smartphones, tablets, or YoPrint’s built-in scanner
- Holds hundreds of times more information than Code 128
- Can be read from any direction
- Takes up less space on documents
What is a Code 128 Barcode?
Code 128 is a traditional 1D (linear) barcode that supports alphanumeric data and is widely used in retail and logistics.
If you prefer to use Code 128 barcodes, YoPrint gives you the option to switch.
How to scan a QR code in YoPrint
You can scan QR codes in two ways:
Option 1: Using a standalone USB/Wireless scanner
- Open YoPrint and ensure it's in the foreground.
- Find any document (like a Stock Transfer PDF) that includes a QR code.
- Use your scanner to scan the QR code.
YoPrint will automatically detect the scan and redirect you to the correct page.
Option 2: Using the built-in QR code scanner (webcam or tablet camera)
- From the dashboard, click the Shutter icon at the top right (beside the Home icon).
- Point your camera at the QR code on the document, ensuring there is adequate lighting, the proper distance, and that the entire code is within the scanner's view.
YoPrint will scan the code and take you directly to the record.
Want to use Code 128 instead?
While QR codes are the default and recommended option in YoPrint, you can choose to use Code 128 barcodes if you’re working with 1D barcode scanners.
To switch to Code 128:
- Go to Settings in YoPrint.
- Select General from the left sidebar.
- Scroll down to the "PDF Configuration" section and toggle off the option that says Use QR Code.
YoPrint will now generate PDFs with Code 128 barcodes instead.
